THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS
HERE AT ST. PAUL’S ARE DIFFERENT
While the most common form of the Stations of the Cross are the traditional fourteen stations on the walls of most Catholic churches, the Stations we pray in our parish are those of our beloved Pope St. John Paul II. These are the stations he prayed every Friday of his life and at the Coliseum in Rome every Good Friday. His stations are based on the scriptural accounts of Our Lord’s Passion, whereas the traditional stations are more based on popular piety which has evolved over the years. For example, in St. John Paul’s stations there is no mention of three falls of Christ nor of Veronica wiping His face, because the scriptures make no mention of these occurrences. St. John Paul’s stations begin with the agony in the garden and follow through the happenings throughout the last night of Christ’s life, His condemnation, bearing of the cross, the crucifixion and His seven last words. They are beautifully scriptural and pertinent to our present day life experiences.
You are invited to join us every Friday during Lent as we sacrifice our time to pray and meditate on Our Lord’s Passion.
